It is next to impossible to enforce your computer usage rules in a large office, without some kind of specialized utility. If you don't want to hire someone to walk around the office and remind everyone to avoid certain websites, than you should use HT System Administrator. It is a lightweight application, with a simple design, but its advanced capabilities will definitely satisfy your needs. Based on your rules, HT System Administrator will automatically close prohibited applications, block questionable websites, restrict access to certain Windows features and much more.

HT System Administrator is free to try for 14 days, without any functionality restrictions. It comes in a small package and it can be installed in no time. The application can be used on Windows 2000 or any later version, up to Windows 8, without sacrificing too much RAM or processing power.

The application can be launched in different ways, depending on how you intend to use it. It can run discretely in the background at all times, without displaying a system tray icon or an entry in the Windows Uninstaller. Its user interface can be displayed by running an executable, using a keyboard combination or by typing "sysadmin" in the Run dialog. The main interface presents three options categories for blocking controls, reports and general settings. Options from the same group will display the same tabbed window.

The blocking controls window allows you to select or add the websites, services, applications or Windows features that you want to block. You can block entire categories, like drugs, violence and so on, but you can also block or allow individual websites. If you want to set up flexible rules, you can add websites or keywords on another tab and set the application to allow, block or limit them to a certain time interval or schedule.

It is possible to block common applications, like Yahoo Messenger, Skype, or various web browsers, but you can target other applications as well, by adding their executables to a list. It is worth mentioning that HT System Administrator's blocking features are very effective. For example, if you block a keyword, the application will not only block web addresses that match that keyword, but it will also erase them instantly if someone types them in the address bar. The best part is that it can differentiate between an address bar and other text boxes. While it will erase blocked keywords from a web browser's address bar, the application won't touch them if typed in a text editor or email.

HT System Administrator can also monitor the activity on a computer. It will generate detailed reports about launched applications, visited websites and other activities. Additionally, the application can tell you how long an application was used or how long a user stayed on a specific website.

Pros

Banned applications, websites or other contents are closed instantly when accessed. The application can run silently in the background without giving itself away with system tray icons or uninstaller entries. HT System Administrator's controls are well organized and they are very easy to understand.

Cons

The trial version will display a nag screen each time you open or close the user interface. If you don't want your employees to misuse your office computers, HT System Administrator will make your rules known at all times.
